Re: Leftovers & Mickey Doodle

Good looking flies. I may have to try some of these this season.
Thanks.

Re: Splitting versus dubbing ropes

IMHO I find that just doing the dubbing loop works faster and better for me. And if you consider using thread of a darker color than the dubbing you can get a bit of that dark color showing through the dubbing as a rib.

Re: Light Olive Soft Hackle

Letumgo, I feel strongly that John was not being truly upset at all. He is a very good person that loves our fishing style and has a lot of history in this stuff. A wonderful source of history and information about our sport. I have been fortunate to enjoy numerous conversations with John at differe...

Re: Light Olive Soft Hackle

I really like this pattern and am going to tie some shortly. Really like using that hook style. So a funny bit of history. I have used ‘scud’ style hooks on soft hackle flies for a few years. Was at a show, I think it was Edison NJ and was chatting with Mr. Shaner and mentioned to him that I was usi...

Re: Your favorite hook

I like the Tiemco 200R hooks. They are 3XL with a bent that l like on my flymphs. I normally tie with barbless and they have 200R-BL too. So it all works. These are not the traditional hooks to use, but I like them a lot. Live on a catch and release trout stream so the barbless makes me feel better ...

Re: Too good to be worth it?

Saber hooks are very good. They have barbless hooks too. I have purchased Saber hooks for years after discovering them at the Somerset fly show. That is now in Edison NJ. You will not be disappointed. Buy some and enjoy the tying.

Re: Tying Wax

A number of years ago a fellow tyer showed me SortKwik. This is an item they use at banks and the Post Office to make sorting papers very easy and quick. It comes in a container that has a pad on the back so it does not wander around my tying bench. I just touch it with my fingers and dubbing goes o...

Re: Who Fishes Wood?

Wow how did I miss this post? After years of chatting about and learning about bamboo I made the jump. Now I only fish bamboo for trout. All the graphite rods are fished by my spouse, and she loves that too. It started with conversations with John Long, a fellow Michigan Fly Fishing Club member and ...

Re: Don't Watch a Dave Hughes Video

Great flies. A funny story about Dave Hughes. At the Midwest Fly Fishing Expo, by The Michigan Fly Fishing Club, Dave was one of our premier presenters some years ago. I can do microphone introductions and I was chosen to introduce Dave. Got to spend the entire weekend with him and talked about all ...
