Re: Hackle Walking

You had me thinking here with the term Hackle Walking. Hadn't heard that one before. Such an informative site here I learn something new most every day.

Re: Who do you think

Is it possible that back in the day this was simply one of the techniques used to apply dubbing to silk? Perhaps unique in that only a few put the technique into print. Sorry to say I'm not much of a historian.

Re: Why no wire?

As long as we are talking about a flymph perhaps being to heavy I am once again reminded of conversation on another web site some years back. I assume it was about the "Leisenring Lift" by which Jim would sight fish and drift his fly in front of the fish and by stopping the drift raise the...

Re: starling skin finally

Ray very nice pics and thanks for sharing those and information with us. It has been mentioned and you have mentioned dyed skins. Just wondering here, with an already fairly fragile feather have you or anyone here experienced more breakage when using the dyed feathers?

Re: More feather Questions

You mentioned smaller flies and with that woodcock also have some nice mottled feathers to consider. As I recall you are in the process of resupplying your self with feathers. I have no idea where you are located but if you have shooting clubs that release birds for harvest you might want to check w...

Re: Partridge Hackle

Boris by saying you found using partridge a bit tricky I assume you mean breaking stems. If that is the case I think the illustartions Lance has shared is the route to go as I find with this technique if there is a breakage it will likely be at the thinest part of the stem which is where the hackle ...

Re: Hackle pliers..... whatcha using?

The tear drop style has become my go to hackle pliers for quite some time now. On occasion a small soft hackle might break in the process of wrapping and with that I have found a small piece of trim type tape wrapped around each tip section to help. I am surprised more haven't gone to the Radio Shac...

Re: Old knots

I'm a fairly new convert to the Davy knot as the improved clinch knot has served me well for a number of season's. Often fishing smaller flies I thought the Davy knot was worth a try. After a couple failures I found snugging the knot a bit tighter than perhaps what I did at first seemed to help. The...
