Re: Fishing a Riffle
Wayne, I really like it when you ramble and bumble. Lots of good information always spills out. When fishing a riffle I usually use a poly leader or an OPST tip called (ready for this?) the "Riffle". If I'm fishing a team of flies, the point fly is almost always lightly weighted.

Re: Pearsall's Gossamer Silk Colors – Wet and Dry
I have a fantastic card of Pearsall’s Embroidery silks, it contains dozens of real silk samples. Unfortunately they are all referenced by a letter and number but no names. Does anyone know how the cross reference these Shade numbers to names that we are familiar with? B Take a look at the first pos...

Re: Squirrel Soft Hackles
Very nice, Wayne. Squirrel is a favorite of mine. Two questions. Are you using a split thread technique with the squirrel? What is that rib? It has just a bit of flash, but nicely understated.

Re: Soft Hackle book?
I love all of Syl's books, I mean, he's the Godfather of American wet fly fishing. I think they're about even as far as fly patterns go. There are more color photos of flies in my copy of The Soft Hackled Fly and tiny soft hackles. You really can't go wrong with either one.

Re: Starling and Purple
Back in '92, I built myself a 6'6" Lamiglas 4 Wt. for those brushy little creeks in Eastern Oregon. Didn't need much distance, but relied on a bow and arrow cast most of the time. ;) High banks and over hanging branches are the name of the game around here, unless your fishing a still water fr...

Re: A Flymph for the Grey Fox hatches
Dang, Carl. When I grow up, I want to tie like you. Just a picture perfect flymph, as usual. Wonderful dressing.

Re: Starling and Purple
Ron, For one of my travel rods I made T-14 tips in 2, 5, 7 and 10' to adjust to different water conditions when only taking a floating line. ;) I find myself using a Skagit head and running line more and more, even with my single hand rods. Everything from a 6'6" 3 weight to a 12'6"5 weig...

Starling and Purple
I was recently reminded that this was a great little pattern. I used to fish these all the time, but they were overlooked in favor of some newer flies. Thought I'd give these old friends another go. In both flies the hook is a Daiichi 1640 size 14, Hackle is starling flank feather, the silk is Pears...
