Re: Peacock quill
That is a sweet looking pattern for most all NZ trout conditions. Bit of work involved in what at first glance seems a simple pattern. Super glue is a good idea with quill bodies- otherwise they tend to last but one fish per fly. Split thread probably gives a finer thorax with less bulk and more fib...

Re: Red Setter
Have you tried a Scotch Poacher? Pretty straight forward dressing with a Pukeko style wing. Ron, In the process right now. Don't have any pukeko feathers, but found some woodduck that's a bit darker blue; that should do. Regards, Scott Best you call that on a "Scott's Poacher" or at least...

Re: Straggle nymphs
Tim,
Oh, I would try them! Of that have no fear! Trouble is I think I would have to import the straggle?
That and do a road trip. As Bill pointed out above, they would be great Rainbow trout food and I do not have any of those at my doorstep.
Ideal trial spot, the outlet of Lake Tekapo!

Re: Straggle nymphs
Ruard! How very "European" Good on you for posting these here, only thing traditional with most of them is the thread and shape of the hook..... but they still catch fish! They will not be everyone's "cup of tea", but I like them. Are you fishing them in the Canal's close t...

Re: Unsuccessful dragonfly nymph ;'(
Karsten, your "Apple Eating Tree Bear" fur is possibly not as hydrophobic as ours, it is colder here and their fur is denser. Polar bear and Aussie Possum are the only furs with hollow fibres, so of any of the natural dubbings they should float best as they are tiny air tubes. Your wool un...

Re: Wool Bodied Partridge Peacock and Orange
Wayne - The yarn stays orange, but it does darken a little once it gets soaked thru. I'm tempted to slightly darken the back of the fly with a brown marker. It might also look nice with four or five strands of pheasant tail fibers tyed in over the back of the fly. Dude, don't over think it- see how...

Re: Wool Bodied Partridge Peacock and Orange
Excellent work, (as we expect from one of the "masters" ) How does the Uni-yarn transform when wet? Some "orange" floss and the like take on an almost mahogany tone when wet and the yarn should show some translucency, making this a very fishable pattern indeed. Try a few wi...

Re: Clark's Spinning Block vs The Dubber
I enjoyed this post. How cool The Dubber is, but I love the feel and results of the traditional block. It is dear to my heart because a forum member made it for me. So you can have your platica and I'll keep the beautiful handcrafted model. You lucky girl...... all I have are the crappy ones I made...

Re: My Latest Junk.....
Junk? Piffle!
Having received some of your very trout worthy flies in the past and using them for their intended purpose, you Sir do not tie junk.
Very good looking patterns that I would have every faith in.
Only time I get hooks stuck in skin like that....... they are usually past the barb!
