Re: Green Caddis Soft Hackle

Carl, I appreciate the tip using the loop of line to create some slack. I will certainly try it. Thanks- Ken Theroe, I'm completely unaware of Kirbed or reversed (offset point) hooks. It would be great if you post a picture. Perhaps you could also list your source for obtaining these hooks. Thanks- ...

Re: Partridge and Hares Ear (Pete Hidy) - Tutorial (SBS)

This is a great tutorial, so let me add my thanks. I'm checking in to getting 1 of those dubbing blocks. I do have a few questions: 1. Where does 1 acquire such a dark partridge skin? 2. This may open a can of worms, why do you prefer to tie in your partridge by the thick part of the stem (instead o...

Re: Green Caddis Soft Hackle

Barry, I'm sorry it has taken me awhile to get back to this post. Here is a sample of the fly I mentioned (locally called the Green Butt), and similar to what Bob posted. In the past, I've tied these on scud style hooks; however, I'm now trying this wet/nymph hook. I hope it will improve my hooking ...

Re: Powell's Squashed Beetle

Bob,

What material did you use for the tail and what is the color name?

Also, is there a small-guage wire rib hidden in your peacock body
to provide durability?

Thanks- Ken

Re: Greentail

I think you will find several variations of the Greentail. Here are 2 references that vary slightly from your fly: Robert Smith's The North County Fly (page 19) referencing James Pickard's Manuscript 1794: Ash silk lapped with hares scut and light green silk for tail . Legged with freckled woodcock ...

Update on Pearsall's Gossamer

Here is an update for the Pearsall's Gossamer watchers. Saturday night, our TU chapter had our annual fundraising dinner/auction. I'm behind on fly tying, but that is another story, so I wasn't able to contribute flies for the silent auction. In the past year, I've made several nice additions to my ...

Hare's Ear & Golden Plover Soft Hackle

I obtained a Golden Plover wing last year from a guy on the Bamboo Forum. He had a supply of wings from birds that died in a storm. He offered to mail them out in exchange for some flies tied with them. I said sure before his supply ran out. I thought it was a great opportunity to use a new material...

Re: Green Caddis Soft Hackle

Tom - Yes, I was fishing the Phillipson DFS the day we talked at Rim Shoals 2 years ago. Hope to make it over again this year for Sowbug. I also have an 8.5' Heddon #17 with 1 3/4F that is a wonderful rod for swinging soft hackles. I will check out that Davey Wotton video. I have a wet fly he tied w...
