Re: History writings on caddisflies
John,
Rusty, whom we both know, wrote a column recently about how caddisflies were not given their deserved attention until recent decades. The piece includes some history of caddis imitations. Have a look at:

Re: Greentail
John, The Greentail (a.k.a. Green Tail) goes waaaaay back, and an "accurate" dressing depends on who wrote the book. Yours is certainly recognizeable as as a Green Tail. The earliest Green Tail recipes were winged flies, but if you're wanting a wingless wet, Pritt's recipe copied above by ...

Re: Shuck wax and pre-dubbed bodies
If my 722 can't be brought back to life I guess I need some more. Great Feathers does not have any for sale. They seem to have less and less products for sale based on the size of their website about 5 years ago. Several different tying waxes, including 6-2-1, 7-2-1, and 7-2-2 formulas, are availab...

Dana - I was hoping you would chime in with the background on the hackle. Thank you. Do you know why they are called “Knee” hackle. Do these feathers come from the legs (thigh region) of the chickens? They are beautiful little soft hackle feathers. Very soft and webby, with nice dark barring. I thi...

Beautiful! I especially like the medium C-y-B capes. Perhaps you could show us your range of furnace hen capes?

Tie2fish - I appreciate your comment. You're correct--I watched a video where Hans Weilenmann did a demo of the split thread technique. Do you know if he originated that technique? Ken, After some digging... F.M. Halford described "fibre-hackles" in Floating Flies and How to Dress Them (1...

Quote of the Day... “ The memory of an old angler is rich with innumerable spoils and trophies of the past; it is vivid, detailed, exact. Something in the nature of the sport makes our angling memories more enduring than others. . . . Every observation he has ever made in fishing, however minute, ha...
