Krystal Flash Perditions

Post by Roadkill » Sat Dec 20, 2025 5:31 pm

My Perditions are a take-off of Perdigons. I try to simplify the materials and cut out some stages of the originals.
In this case, I did not use Jig hooks and used the FL hot spot threads for the tying thread on some patterns depending on the under-body color I wanted instead of changing from the under-body tying thread.

My friend Ken had mentioned his recent success with the Gasolina Perdigon...

Part of my change for these flies is related my own fishing and to this video about testing hooks and the angle the fish might see...

Thanks Roadkill for sharing these patterns and the links. Im going to sit down and tie some these up, with the hopes that it warms up a bit in these parts. I have been working on some Bwo nymphs and softhackles. Between batttling COVID and the Michigan winter all I can think of are warm spring days.

Bill thanks for the posts about hook angle..... Swentoski makes a pretty good argument and now we don;t have to buy a fish tank.. Wondering why you dont coat your perditions with either sally hansens or other resin, ie perdigons....I'm guessing you just consider it an unnecessary extra step..
Also... I love your creative naming of your patterns...hope you didn't drown in that atmospeheric river you guys received.

Ron, I did coat the bodies with Sally Hansen's. ;)
But it took 3 tries to load the first post without crashing after hitting the submit button and I just forgot to include that step. :?

Bill the reason I thought they weren't coated was the appearance of your body is irregular as opposed to the way most "perdition" flies look, evenly coated so as to appear smooth...

ronr,

The irregular body is by design; the colors of Krystal Flash are twisted into a rope before winding to create multifaceted faces for light to flash in different directions off the segmentation as it constantly moves in the water. I expect the FL threads underneath the KF will also show through in different tones depending on the depth of the translucent KF rope over it.

Perdigons may reflect light smoothly off the thread base like a mirror, Perditions may sparkle like diamonds. ;)
