I have OPST 30 lb chartreuse mono I bought as a running line and i can't stand it. I guess I could use it as a gazillion caddis butts.

Thanks,

John
I know its comical, but this technique put alot of fish in my net the past year.

Wayne - I’m digging these hair hackle patterns, and split tread technique. Nice and buggy. Hard to argue with success.

John ~ Why do you dislike the OPST running line? Just curious. I’ve used it for two seasons now and like it better than plane mono running line. The OPST line stays very limp, compared with the others I tried. I’ve found it is very important to hand stretch the line before fishing (straightens out nicely and shoots thru the guides smoothly).

Here is a video by Ed Ward, showing how to eliminate the twist in your line.

I found Ed’s video on making the loop connections is also helpful, in showing how to minimize the size of the knots.

I'm with you Ray... once you stretch the lazer line its great...I've also tried Scientific Anglers new Absolute Shooting Line on my micro skagit Commando heads... its a flat mono that once you stretch is great... but a bugger if you don't...

John - Chuckle. I figured that would be the case. With loop to loop connections you will always get that clickity clack as the knots run thru the guides. I don’t like it either, but have grown accustomed to it over time. The first click I feel on the retrieve tells me it’s time to make another cast.

I’ve never tried the OPST single line system, so can’t speak to its benefits/weaknesses.

Wayne - Sorry for high jacking your post. My fault.

It doesn't twist on the A$$ end of a caddis pattern either.
