Ugly, like beauty, is in the eye of the beholder. Apparently, there were 30 or more fish that thought it was drop dead gorgeous. Aside from the look and effectiveness, I'm impressed with the durability of that fly. Well done, Wayne.

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw it. I like tying Rosborough patterns; like a Betters pattern, I just think they scream 'buggy'. Nice, Wayne.

She may be ugly, but she sure can cook! :D ;)

I’ve always loved the muskrat pattern.

After 70 years of use by my father, and now me I think I can safely say this pattern has stood the test of time. At least for me it has.

I do not know who this Polly Rosborough guy is, but if he fishes anything like the Muskrat, he is pretty smart.

Wayne,
Excellent looking pattern for sure! Let's rename it "Beautiful Muskrat"! Indeed, that's what it is! You have, as you always do, dazzled us with your technical tying which I have come to love seeing! Thirty fishes.....you are blessed!
Great job friend!

Thanks Doug, I appreciate that.

Thirty fish with just that fly. That was not even half the fish I caught.

I had doubles on 4 times. I landed the doubles twice. When the trout are chasing caddis emergers, it stumps most fishermen. They put on dries or cast wets upstream. On the swing is not what many local fishermen comprehend. All the better for me. Other patterns that worked those days.

Wayne,

Your Muskrat pattern (ugly or pretty) is proof that simple is often best. The picture of it wet just screams--fish me! Thank you for including it in the recent fly swap. I would like to know more about the fly in the last picture; is that a quill body covered in UV?

Thanks- Ken
