So I got the book, The History of Fly - Fishing In Fifty Flies and the Blae and Black was the first fly I saw. I said to myself, I can tie that. It was first tied in the 1800's, and after my attempt, today may be the last unless nfrechet does one to show me how it's really done . . . PLEASE!
Original recipe:
Hook, Down eyed wet fly hook
Thread, Black tying silk . . . I had to sub with Danville's black thread
Tail, Golden Pheasant Tippet
Ribbing, Round or half round tinsel
Body, Black tying silk
Wing, Matching slips of grey duck quill
Hackle, Black hen hackle
Blae and Black
