The cow hair in the picture is the soft under hair of Highland cattle. The outer hair is really long and a pain to remove. I think the reason it never caught on as a dubbing is that it’s not a by-product of any industry. There was no reason to gather it.

I spent the last 30 years raising Scotch Highland cattle. I sent a few bags of highland fur out to some folks here but I don't know that anything ever got tied with it yet. The longer outer hair is a pain and I've never been able to figure out how to deal with it properly. After seeing Carl's magic with the horsehair, I might try that and see if it can wrap a decent body.

Wrassling large, irascible critters with very long sharp horns has taken a physical toll on me over the years, and we've recently retired ourselves from the cattle business; greenhouses and chickens being far easier to deal with now.

The underfur mixes well with other materials in the spice grinder.
