This is where he has been:

I have no association with this company, I did not know of it until last week. I will pay full price for what I buy. As I understand it, this stock comes from an old, retired commercial flytier, Margrethe Thomsen, now 86. I think that Niklas Dahlin mentioned her in another thread. She knew how to store materals in a proper way.
I am as happy for this catch as for any from the stream. This tells you a lot about how crazy I am...

According to Gunnar Johnson, #10 ash is the colour Pete Hidy used almost exclusively as his tying thread during his later years. I might have mentioned this before. I have a couple of Gunnar's flies. They are exquisite! Johan Klingberg has told a story about how Gunnar used to come to "THE" fly tying retailer when a shipment of hen necks had arrived. All of them were poured all over the floor and Gunnar was crawling around, knowing exactly what to look for. I like stories like that.

Ha...it's a small world: the review of Gunnar Johnson's book you link is from a gentleman who lives here in Knoxville, Tennessee. (I've actually fished with Hans, aka "Tennswede," here in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park--a very nice fellow.

)
At any rare, I'm definitely looking forward to the forthcoming translation of Mr. Johnson's book: from the pictures I've seen of Johan's flies, it seems as if y'all Swedes have really raised the bar when it comes to tying Hidy-esque flymphs.
