Does anyone fish the "Usual" trout fly and does it work? Is it tied only in the natural or can it be effective tied in a dun color? Thank you.

I've tried it and it fished well. It's a buggy looking fly so the fish see a lot of movement. I've tied this fly from natural to black. It's nice to have in the box.

I've had some good luck with it, even in places where I wouldn't have thought it would work. I've always viewed it as a basic "design," and I've tied it in colors that are closer to an imitative pattern. In a size 18 tied with a kind of "pukey" chartreuse body and a dun colored "wing," it accounted for a 23" rainbow on the Henry's Fork a few years ago. It's a great impressionistic design with lots of movement and great floatability.

Yep, it's a great all-around fly. :)
