First post: Starling and Red

Hello, all. This is my first post on your forum. I really have enjoyed skimming the archives here. I love tying and fishing wet flies, namely soft hackles (North Country Spiders). Here is one that has been very effective on cloudy winter days for me on the White in Arkansas. Particularly, in the State Park riffle, before minimum flow was a thing, fish would be stacked up below the riffle. Caught some really nice browns and rainbows here swinging this pattern in winter, on a 4wt, after this section of the White opened back up after the protected spawn season. Those were the days. Now, that riffle is covered up with fast water. You could catch no flow days on the White on mild winter days. This would make a good streamer spot now.

Wow, those are beautiful little spider patterns. I love the look the segmented effect, given by the rib. Starling looks very nice, against the red body. Juicy bugs!

Thank you. I don’t see that happening honestly. My tying is probably 75% wet flies and my fishing is probably about 90% wet flies. Love the sparseness, simplicity, and history of the wet fly. Always looking out for a new feather type. Partridge, grouse, other upland birds, they all have a beautiful plumage and it’s intrguing how we can take a single feather and some thread or floss and construct an effective fishing fly. I am still discovering websites and blogs dedicated to spiders and wets, and that feeds my research on these flies. Always looking for more info in these to feed my addiction.
