I had never heard of Datus Proper, his works sound like they could be an interesting read, but that does not make
him right on the Daiichi 1640/Drennan hooks for Spiders. I started using them when they were recommended by Roger Fogg in
his 1988 book "A Handbook of North Country Flies". The hooks were originally sold to Coarse fishermen, mainly the carp
specialists. The main reason for their appeal to me, was their straight eye got closer to the eyeless hooks of the mid 19th
century. They also proved to be very successful for spiders. They are not necessarily the perfect hook for all occasions.
I have a rather untidy section on hooks on my site, I now have a reason to re-organise it.

Kelly L. wrote:Thank you for the clarification on this. The photos did not have a name of the hook, so I was confused. Then I saw the package at the bottom, and thought you were saying this was the maker of the hooks we had been talking about. (that was my assumption) I am gonna have to try and stop buying more hooks for a while. After this order from Sweden, I need to put the brakes on hard, for my spending spree.

I apologize for being lazy while writing my post. I type so slowly so I use to just give a link for those who want to investigate. I found this when following a link to check a Hanak model hook and as I found the VMC hooks cheap I posted this. Since they are straight eyed hooks some people will like them and one of the models is barbless. What I didn't tell you about was the Japanese silk they also sell that is said to be finer than Pearsall's. I thought that you didn't want to know that. "Say no to temptation".
Clarificonfusion might be my middle name.

No need to apologize. Your posts and thoughts are extremely helpful. I did not know you type slowly. I appreciate the time you've taken to explain things to me.
