"Dead or alive". I have to admit that I sometimes have difficulties in this regard when sourcing feathers. I just bought a common snipe off eBay but it was dead already, which made it easier. The seller was licensed to kill...

i just gotta bag full of Woodcock today in the mail, from Zazzer.....sent him a bunch of hooks in a swap we arranged. Woodcock was quite dead thank you very much. Sure looks like you got some beautiful feathers there.

That bird has beautiful feathers - I agree. The one I bought was "common snipe" which is both different from and bigger than the "jack snipe" in the picture(s).

What I meant with difficulties in the first post was that I have mixed feelings about some birdskins. I prefer the jack snipe to be alive, although I want his feathers. Can't solve that one...

Sure you can.....catch one, cage it.....feed it.....water it.....talk to it.....give it bubble baths.....put a mirror in the cage so it doesn't get lonely.....and wait for it to molt feathers.
