YLI Silk
So I don't hijack Hanaye's Thread thread, I thought I'd ask here. For those that use YLI Silk for fly tying thread, what weight silk are you using. At the price, I'd like to try a spool or twenty but don't know what to order.
Does it take wax about the same as Pearsall's? Can it be split for split thread dubbing?
Help me before I spend money!!!

Re: YLI Silk
Hi Ron,
This is the YLI source in the UK that I use. It gives names to the colours as well as numbers.
I have a problem with numbers and prefer a colour name.The range is very big and the thread is very similar to Pearsall, it may be very slightly thinner. Try a couple of spools and see what you think. It is probably cheaper in the USA as it is marketed from there, but this gives you an idea of the colour range.
It has one advantage, you can use a standard size bobbin-holder.

Hi Ree;
YLI 100, very similar to pearsalls and takes wax just like pearsalls.
I've never tried to split the thread so can't comment on that.
As far as price goes, YLI is way more economical, 200meter spools for about twice the price of a 50 meter Pearsalls spool. The YLI spools fit a convnetional sized bobbin too.

Donald, Howdy;
Great link Donald.
As you stated it is nice to put a name to a colo(u)r.

PS. Did a quick Google and found these folks (Never met'em);
http://www.redrockthreads.com/yli-threa ... y-silk.asp
they even have some of the YLI with silver or Gold thread interwoven (They call it "Sparkle").
Thought ya'll might like to know, that is if you didn't already.

Donald, Wayne,
Thanks, that's what I was looking for. Now I'll gladly use the plastic and get something new to play with.
Hankaye,
Thanks for the link. The order is in.
