Daiichii 1640 and 1650

Post by Stendalen » Sun Oct 16, 2011 5:48 am

Hi
Having some trouble sourcing these hooks. Not tried soft hackles on straight-eye hooks so much and these looks great.

I've found them in US but not in Europe. Any ideas?

Thanks
Martin

I think the closest you will find right now is the Kamasan B980, ( I think this is the same hook as the Daichi 1640, just a different package).

Also available as barbless;

The Drennan Carbon Specimen hooks ( Identical to the Daiichi 1640 ), have been discontinued it seems. Daiichi hooks are hard to find here.

Can't help you with the 1650. last time I tried I couldn't find any. Except in large sizes. It's the same pattern but heavier wire.

Seems Thornes closed down when the owner retired!

The TMC 105 is also the same hook I think;

but I have only found it in larger sizes.

Sorry Martin.....all i could find round here in a Daiichi dry fly hook is the 1180, 1190, & 1110. Standard, Mini-Barb, & Wide Gape. Since i have enough Trout fly hooks to tye on for the rest of my life.....i haven't asked Daiichi for anything other than the Alec Jackson Spey hooks in the last 3 or 4 yrs. i could prolly get some from them.....spose it'd be cool to have some.....but there's not much point in doin' that just because i can. i mean is it gonna float any better just because it has a straight eye.............maybe.........but who cares? :roll: i got other straight eyed dry fly hooks....... :lol: Good luck.....and don't hesitate to ask if need you something. ;)

Amazing the efforts you put in helping me :D :oops: !

Mike, there seems to be a lot of hooks identical to the 1640/1650. Will check them out and see if Jim ships overseas.

Again, thanks!

Take care
Martin
