Pearsall's Gossamer Going Away

The information posted at the following website has been verified by our own "Greenwell" (John Shaner), who has the kind of extensive connections to know this information with certainty:

Crap, one of the things we could consider a constant will now need a comparison/corresponding chart. Oh well, when I saw the post title my first reaction was that I didn't have the extra cash on hand to stockpile Gossamer silk. I can deal with a name change. :D

Same! ;) I thought we were loosing something I have little of an cannot aford to rush stockpile as some folk like avoiding accounts whilst on holiday.
Thought I might have found some New Years day when asked to value a redundant tying kit. No silk, but I did get a tube of Overtons Wonder Wax. ;)

Misleading thread title. Much ado about nothing, as far as I can tell.

I was aware of this, as I had recenly been poking around on the Pearsall's website. I noticed that the Gossamer references had been replaced with "Superfine Silk". The good news is that there are now lots more colors to choose from. Check out their presentation color set:

Fifty Color Set = £95.00 (currently about $155 US Dollars)

I'm not schooled on this thread thing, but just looking at the spools it looks like the colors are beautiful! Looking forward to this new thread since now I am beginning to tie with silk.

A few days ago I visited Pearsall's Embroidery website in order to replenish a few colors of Gossamer Silk. As you now know, they have been replaced by Langley. Carol and I exchanged a few emails in which I asked if Pearsalls Gossamer will still be available. This is a direct quote from Carol at Pearsall's Embroidery:

"The Gossamer was never available from Pearsalls, they only supplied the
wholesaler Venyards. We bought the embroidery department in May 2007 (hence
Pearsalls Embroidery) and, apart from dyeing the fishing silks for
Pearsalls, we were not involved in any other way. We ceased dyeing for them
in 2010 when John was becoming more ill.
Langley's Superfine is the same Gossamer that we purchased from Pearsalls
Ltd."

also,

"The colours that are no longer available in Pearsalls are the following:-
4 Light Yellow
6B Sherry
7 Royal
10 Ash
11 Golden Yellow
13 Crimson

In the Langley Threads Superfine Silk Golden Brown 1257 is equivalent to
6B,
Cornflower Blue 1149 to 7 Royal,
Smoke 1081 to Ash 10. There are no other matches. Hope this helps.
Best wishes
Carol"

I purchased a dozen spools of Pearsall's Gossamer from Pearsall's Embroidery a few years ago, so I do not know what she meant by saying that
Pearsall's Gossamer was never available from them, so make of this what you will. It sounds to me like Veniards may now be the main source for Pearsall's Gossamer.

Good grief, when I read the title, my heart dropped. I do have several colors, but no duplicates of colors. I also don't have any extra cash to stock up. So they are all worried about the embroidery folks? What about the FLY TYERS? Why not carry the old colors, and they can label it whatever they want to? I don't care if it is labeled Superfine. As long as it is the same stuff, for the same price, I don't care. It is going to be a pain in the rear to do comparisons, true. Last year I was stocking up on Mustad hooks, when I heard they were selling out. The feather craze was another huge annoyance, now this. In a couple of weeks, I will have been tying for five years. Is it always this way? Every year another scare, or shortage, of materials WE DEPEND ON?
