Names of flies / dressings

With all the discussion of the correct dressings for various named flies, maybe Cutcliff (I think it was him) might have been on to something by just numbering his tyings. I might start doing the same in the future, but that would mean I'd have to start writing down all the materials for each fly that I tie and fish.

Nah, maybe I'll just tie a few flies, put them in my fly boxes and then later on, try to figure what the heck I used to tie that certain fly! Disorganized but then it'll make this old Bohemian's life be full of little surprises as I try to duplicate a previous dressing, eh?

Atherton certainly numbered his flies. Not a bad system, actually.

I have thought about listing my flies & didn't know quite how I was going to do it. Reading this post just helped me to decide on how I'm going to list my flies.

Thanks joaniebo for bringing this subject up.
