I was looking over my starling skin for feathers to use on a #12 hook, and found a few near the tail and on the coverts that had a distinct golden-white edge along the entire feather. I thought it would make an interesting effect on a wet fly, kind of like the feathers of the golden plover.
Here is the dressing for the flymph I tied.
Hook: #12 light wire
Thread: Yellow 8/0
Body: Light hare's ear spun in a dubbing loop
Rib: Fine flat gold tinsel
Hackle: gold-edged starling reinforced with thread

Nice fly and I admire the use of a wider rib that seems to be under used by many modern tyers.

I think the cutthroats, brookies, and other trout in the streams should go for them...those are the speckled trout I fish for ( though I did look up a picture, those spotted sea trout look very interesting). I'm a Montanan.
