I've tied these before as dry flies but thinking of doing a few with a hen hackle. Anyone else fish the red, orange and yellow (Treacle Parkin) as a wet fly?

Yes. Karsten sent me a set of red tags, and they worked like a charm as a wet (fished free drifting).

Thanks for response. Have done a few this past week as a dry fly and will do a few more next week with the red, yellow and orange wool tags and a brown or furnace hen hackle.

Add a thumbs up from me for the wet style Red Tags. Very effective on Brookies and Browns.

Absolutely a great fly. You're going to love it with hen hackle, and so will the fish. For the last two years I have always had some of these in my box.

I have a friend in Ireland who sent me some traditional wet flies, soft hackle and Clyde style and there were a few of these Red Tag flies in the box he sent. They have turned out to be one of my favorite flies along with the Black Pennell.

I've tied about a dozen of each with red, orange and yellow wool tags for next season - all with hen hackles.

In my opinion Any of the flies above can be fished wet.

Adding an orange tag makes the fly very similar to a Scottish variation of a very popular and lethal Welsh pattern called the Coch-y-Bonddu’. I have used the Scottish version for years as a wet fly, usually on a dropper. I would put it on if there was nothing showing, particularly on a lake. It is one of my favourites.
I have also found the fly to be very good on a river when there is a bit of colour in the water, after a spate.
Personally I think any fly tied with a coloured tag and peacock herl with a hen hackle is a winner.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to fish fly called “Treacle Parkin”?
