This is my version of the Snipe Bloa tied with the paler Snipe hackles. A very useful fly to have. I like tying with Snipe feathers and tie up various Snipe hackle flies with different coloured bodies.
Kamasan B410 size 14 hook ( I tie in #14/16), Danville’s flymaster 6/0 primrose thread. Body of thread lightly dubbed with mole fur. Snipe hackle.

Great looking fly. Do you notice any difference presentation with a straight eye vs. a down eye?

That’s the killer for me - although mine tend to be a bit more ragged..

No, although I do like the straight eye hooks. These are not trout hooks but English coarse fishing hooks but they are ideal for spiders and any lightly dressed flies. I believe they go down to size 22. However I usually tie down to 18, if I need it smaller I tie an #18 short.

Great looking fly!!
I would love to fish it behind a PMD Sparkle Dun on the Owyhee River during an emergence! The heavy hook would also be a plus for the big Browns that like small flies.

This looks like a highly effective olive pattern. The primrose silk and mole dubbing makes for a lovely combination. Snipe is icing on the cake!

I like the mole dubbing. It gives it a unique appearance in color. I'm going to have to try and locate snipe feathers and try them out for myself.

At the moment Snipe feathers are difficult to get in the UK. I think with the ‘lockdown’ for Covid 19 everybody is tying flies.
