wire and silk brushes

I started an experiment with brushes from copper wire and from silk. The first serie is with different colors of copper wire and with claret dubbing: 50% hare and 50% seal. The hook is a Kamasan B 175 #12 and the thread sheer light yellow.

I tried to leave the hackle dry , I think it is more like the way they behave in the water.

Great idea, great photos and killer flies!
Excellent post!

Reminds me of the woven wire bodies some of the UK and European tiers like to add extra weight to competition flies, but dubbed wire brushes sure add a lot more life to the fly body. The translucent seal fur should make the wire "pop" underwater and give some really neat "keying" triggers.

Same for me. This is a really nice series. The wire bodies with seal are a killer combo. Nice work and a wonderful post.

Love the lies, in regards to the bodies and the wire. When I saw the post and the reference I thought brushes but the wire looks ribbed. Do you premake the brushes before tying them in.

If you are dubbing onto the wire itself then, do you apply some form of wax?
I'm thinking of an article in a very old fly Tyer magazine that covered dubbing on to wire.

The wire is quite thin so it look like one thread of wire but it is a dubbing brush that I had made with my Clark dubbingblock.
