Thankx Jeff..........BOY i hope i've got that right........?????.........it is Jeff i hope. If i messed it up, i apologise. There's just so many names to memorize. Yes, purple is one of my very favorite colors in general, not just fly tying. Looking forward to your next pic/post.

Yes, you got it right.
Decided not to copy you...... just yet till I get some practice in!
Found a reference to "Electric Soft Hackles" so tried a couple of them instead.
The olive one is done on some cheap bulk (soft!) hooks I picked up somewhere that I use for practice, but it turned out ok... if a little long in the body.
The black is more "proper" with it's dimentions. Least I think so

I like that second one Mataura. Has some classic influences.
This one I call the Wallowa Sunrise. More of a spider pattern. Tied on a #8 Ken Sawada Old Limerick Wet hook.
The thorax is a simi seal dubbing and the purple secondary hackle is mohair.

I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.

Thanks guys.
Good luck with the tests Mark. I am away from home and doing the hospital visit thing myself, my Kimmy is in the surgical ward of our local big hospital...... Im playing the devoted care giver to try to get her out and home.
Oldhat that is a seriously neat looking tie! My black electric was ties on a #4 Black Magic hook and the colours did not come out as well as I hoped. Took photos in low light to try to make the flash "kick" with a bit of sparkle. Mid section of that body is purple not blue as it shows.

Jeff - Beautiful flies. I want to steal that salt-and-pepper tail design for the future. Very cool!
Carl - I love the entire package (the hook, the colors, the proportions, the photo), everything! Fantastic...

Carl that really is one beauty of a fly!
Question for you all though.......
Back in the day, when folk figured it was easier to tie hair-wing salmon flies than made-wing versions, the colours of the feather made-wing were generally mimicked with the colour of the hair.
My question is......
Would it be wrong to take the body of a traditional salmon fly and soft hackle it rather than wing it? OK it would not work too well with a lot of the old patterns that carry many colours in their wing, but with simple(say two colour) wings a double hackle wrapped wet fly/flymph style would continue the idea of the pattern even if not in the traditional way.
Just a silly question...... shoot me down if I'm mad!!
