Here are some simple Flymphs that I tied for my auction donation at the 2025 NW Fly Tyer Expo at Albany, OR.

I made a dozen with 4 different colors to show the versatility of flymphs in mimicking a variety of insects.

You can use simple India Hen hackles to produce killer flies with simple dubbings.

The dubbings clockwise from top right...
Hare's Mask, Beaver dyed Black, Muskrat, and Rabbit dyed Yellow.

All the dubbings were blended with Trilobal Nylon for a little added sparkle.

I demonstrated these and a few others at the Expo.

It was a good show, with some good vendors. I think the number of tiers was a little over 130. That is down from the pre-Covid highs of over 200. The thought is that a number of the old fly tyers don't want to chance getting covid. That applies to the public as well.

The smaller number of tyers also made the tying sessions longer with only 2 sessions instead of 3. Some tyers didn't want to tie for 4 hours.

Attendance on Friday is down as well. We especially miss the young fly tyers on Fridays who used to come before schools quit funding many of their field trips.

I ran into Dave Hughes who said he had not come for a few years after he had a bad case of C19. As usual I didn't get to see all the tyers in action I wanted to visit with, but I did see a few new ones and many old friends.

Nice simple ties roadkill, these are very helpful for beginner to intermediate fly tier who wants to try flymphs and wet flies.

About half my tying time at the expo was introducing or advancing those kinds of tyers! The rest was devoted to experienced tyers and discussing the nuances of Flymphs and Soft Hackles.

Simple, consistently tied; I would expect effectiveness times 4!

A great starting point as you introduce new tiers to the world of flymphs, but a reminder
for us all--let's remember, not to make it too complicated.
