Grubus Gargantuan

I tyed this fly on a hook that was given to me by Misako (Mark Ramero's wife). This is an enormous circle hook made by Gamakatsu. Misako gave me this hook and said that Mark would have liked me to tye something on it. I decided to tye the biggest soft hackle fly I could with it.
I decide to tye the entire fly without a vice (tyed in hand). This turned out to be a lot of fun! I was amazed how much peacock herl it took to complete the thorax of this fly (five separate batches to get a proportionally sized thorax). The hackle fibers are burnt turkey tail fibers (poor mans heron).
I participated in a children's fly fest yesterday and this fly served as a good conversation starter. I am confident that Mark would have liked this fly. Thanks Misako.
