Hans,
That's electric! I bet it glows underwater! I really like the overall look of the fly!
The dark mallard is excellent!

Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.

Hans.....

You decribe the hackle as " Bronze Mallard Barbs" are these tied-in as a bunch and some how rotated around the hook shank ??.

gravelbed,

Close. After attaching the thread I fold the strip of barbs (or a bunch of barbs or hair for that matter), tips pointing over the eye of the hook, around the shank. Make a loose loop all around shank and material and tighten. Some fine tuning can be done at this stage, but mostly the hook will be fully and evenly encircled. Cinch and secure with a couple tight wraps.

Better make sure the length of tips exposed is the length you want, as there is no going back afterwards

Complete remainder of fly, fold back collar and fix angle as desired. Whip finish... done 8-)

Cheers,

Hans.....

Referring to "I fold the STRIP of barbs....... I take it that you actually cut a section of the feather containing enough fibers required, fold this around the hook-shank to the correct proportions, then catch-in with a loose wrap. Have I got it right???

It is a technique that opens up a whole new range of hackle feather, as well as hair-hackle possibilities.

Not to mention hook size possibilities.

Hi Hans......

Could I put forward a request from you!! could you please tie-up a Partridge & Orange size (18#), using the same method you used for the Bronze & Peacock, then post us the result on the forum.

Regards...... Gravelbed.
