Jasper & Landrail
Hook - Mustad Model R90 / Size 12
Thread - Pearsall's Gossamer Silk (Jasper)
Hackle - Landrail Wing Coverlet Feather (Sub)
Abdomen - Pearsall's Gossamer Silk (Jasper)
Thorax - Peacock Herl (three strands reinforced in a silk dubbing loop)
The hackle for this fly is landrail substitute from Great Feathers. The feathers are gorgeous in the right light. They have a warm golden-brown edge and an iridescent black center. The feather is specially dyed starling wing. Really beautiful stuff. The main body of the fly is tyed with Jasper colored Pearsall's silk. Stockards is now carrying this, in case anyone is interested.
The heavy hook is a Mustad R90 (extra heavy wet fly hook). The smaller hooks are tyed on Mustad Model R50/Size 14. The abdomen looks a little short to me on the smaller hook. I'd like to try these on a hook with a shank a little longer than the R50.
If you look closely at the abdomen, you may notice a little difference in the pattern. I was playing around with the amount of twist to see how it changed the mottling of the body.
