I was up on the old bunkhouse roof working on a new roof early in the morning about a week ago. I noticed some mayflies diving at the tar paper underlayment. I could not grab one but one landed on my shirt sleeve. It was interesting to see that they were egg laying females with a large bright orange egg cluster. This is my take on what I think may have been Grey Drakes from the nearby creek.

Not bad looking at all. I have to admit that when I first saw your fly I thought it was an ant, but after reading your post it makes perfect sense.

On the second cast into the creek with my 6'6", 4 Weight, Lamiglas Rod I built back in 1992, a native Eastern Brook about 7" confirmed the fly was acceptable to the locals. ;)

glad to know those weren't yellow jackets that bombed you on the roof...

ronr and I spent a few cool but calm and sunny hours on the Crooked River yesterday! My Bunkhouse Bomber turned out to be the right fly for me counting coup on some Redsides from 7 to almost 14 inches. ;)

Bill had the ticket.. my day was a little less exciting... but my eats were on soft hackles at least. We don't get on the water together often enough.
