Mixed up a bunch of Hidy's March brown dubbing today (hare's cheek and reddish brown wool) then worked on a couple flies.

The markings on the partridge is so nice. Is that a western bird?

What size hook did you tie this on? What is the yellow rib? Is that Pearsalls Gossamer?

The partridge was a cheapo I picked up at the show in PA.

The hook is a #12. Actually a Firehole #14 :D

The rib is some classic silk rod wrapping thread I have that I used instead of buttonhole.

Very nice, Carl....... is the tail a few fibers from the same feather? Also what type of thread did you use for the head?

Yes, tail off same feather. The thread is Kimono silk. A good 6B substitute.

Carl,
Perfect timing as well as tying! I remember this one well! This is the pattern I chose to tie for last years March Brown Flymph Swap! I pulled the bag(s) from the den closet and found a treasure trove of flies, notes, and materials that I used to make the flies! Your pattern above looks even better that my original offerings for the swap!
Then, I opened the other bags and beheld everyone's offerings! Oh my gosh, I am holding a great piece of tying history! This has to be one of the greatest swaps ever! Thank you Carl and thank you everyone for such grace and beauty!
