One of my first "fly boxes" from the early 1960's complete with the only flies I have from my tying back in the 50'S & 60's.

I also had a Prince Albert in a can "fly Box" as well one real plastic rotary dry fly box.

I came across this blast from the past when I was doing some Covid social distancing cleanup of my old tackle boxes at Camp Roadkill in central Oregon.

To tie the black hair streamers at the middle top you would need to have a black street mongrel you were nursing back to health after getting hit by a car. About 1961 "Shorty" was given to me by a neighbor who found him in the street in back of the local liquor store.

He hit the road again when he was healthy that fall.

Bill - That is one of the patterns that first grabbed my eye. It reminds me very much of some of the New Zealand lures I tye and love to fish. I’m always surprised how similar our taste in flies is. We might be brothers…

My Shorty flies were one of the reasons I loved the Hairy Dog and other similar Kiwi flies at first sight.
