Obsessed and happy.

Post by daringduffer » Tue Feb 08, 2011 10:18 am

Well, I've found out that I have a "thing" going on about blending dubbing. It's a wonderful part of our hobby with neverending possibilities. Last night i mixed natural, claret, dark claret, fiery brown, picric and black hares mask fur with australian opossum (mainly for the outstanding ability to bind the fibers together). The result was marvellous. Rich colour with lifelike sheen. I found out that the salt in this mix - the secret behind the result - was the jet black dyed hare. Without it the mix was just good and interesting. I felt like an artist and had difficulties getting to bed.

Australian opossum is a must: http://www.doc.govt.nz/conservation/thr ... ums/facts/,

I seem to recall Hans doing some marvelous things with Aussie possum ...

Great post. I've done that. It's a little odd, moreso than a lot of the obsessive stuff I get myself into, but skinning animal hides and mixing them in a coffee grinder is so strangely compelling. I'm always trying to get that Roy Christy kind of mix.

Hi DD,

Blending dubbing is in my opinion a very nice piece of our hobby. I like it to start with a pelt of an animal (hare for example) prepare it with alcohol dry it and then it must be dyed. If that is ready you realy can blend the dubbing you want to. Possum is a great "binder" in the dubbing mix but hare also but is a bit softer when you use also the underfurr. If you start with a complete pelt there are so much different shade from white to tan to dark and some black too.

Greeting
There will allways be a solution.
