New Bailey's Tying Wax

Post by Ron Eagle Elk » Mon Feb 21, 2011 7:43 pm

I've been trying out a new tying wax from forum member, wsbailey. This is different than the cobblers wax and light tying wax he makes. The new stuff comes in cake form, in a nice little screw top tin. It gives a subtle color change on silk thread, much like the light wax. The difference is the tackiness of the new wax. If your a user of dubbing wax, this stuff is great. The cake of wax is firm enough that it doesn't deposit globs of wax on the thread, but it's tacky enough to allow touch dubbing and makes spinning dubing on thread easy as pie, even with difficult dubbing.

I've added a new favorite wax to my tying aresenal.

Willow,

Didn't say he was giving it away, just said I was trying it.

Ron - Your post reminded me of a wax I bought last Christmas. The wax is sold specifically for holding candles in a candlestick holder. The wax is white in color and tacky/sticky. It came in a small round metal tin. This wax is supposed to be formed into a small ball and pressed into the bottom of a candle stick holder. When the candle is pressed into the holder it grips the candle, holding it in place. I bought a small tin of the wax thinking it would be good for fly tying. I've since forgotten where I placed it and have not give it a try. I need to find the tin again to give it a try as a tying wax.

This Bailey's wax you describe sounds very useful. Do you have a web link to buy the stuff?

REE, you are so correct that wax is amazing. I tied some Tenkara flies with using button hole twist, that stuff grabs like nothing I have ever used.
I also bought some spider wax from Bob Smith, it also is a great dubbing wax. I used it on seal and it grabbed it like it was a magnet.

Ray, go through the members list and find his email. He also has some on FeathersMC but not the stuff in the can.

Thanks Bob. I checked, but his doesn't have anything listed under his member info. I didn't realize this was the same Bill Bailey, as listed on the FeathersMC site. I have been planning to buy some of his pigs wool dubbing at some point. John's site mentioned that Bill was injured (burned) earlier this month and is unable to do any dying of materials.

Ray, PM him. His pig's wool and seal is terrific. Great vibrant colors and many to choose from. Stuff lasts a long time, even in the smaller packages.

Willow, your absolutely correct, any comment of mine in that vein should have been in a PM, and for that I offer my sincere and humble apologies.
