video - Gosling

Post by Hans Weilenmann » Sun May 05, 2013 3:47 pm

The Gosling is a traditional Irish lough pattern - with a proven track record on the lough - but should not be overlooked as a river pattern for Atlantic salmon.

I too have a soft spot for the Irish Lough patterns, nice depiction here Hans.
My favourite spot in the video was when the thread refused somewhat to split, thus proving perhaps you were once a mortal like the rest of us! ;)

Hans, Howdy;

Very nice example of a lough fly!
A question, if I may ... When you were turning the first
(Orange), hackle, it appeared that you were not using a side
against the hook, rather you were wrapping it with the outside
of the hackle's shaft (with barbs pointing towards both the eye
and the bend), against the hooks shank to give it the shaggy
appearance ... :? , ???? Or do I need a fresh prescription? :lol:

Hank, at times the stem shape just forces this awkward behavior. No matter, it still gets sorted and made to behave 8-)

Hans, Howdy;

Thanks for the clarification. So, next time I get an
unruly hackle I'll just keep going instead of allowing
it some free headspace rental property ( :twisted: ) ... :lol:

Now now, do not misconscrue my words. Crowding the head is never a good thing, but then as I wrap hackle towards the bend, that is not a challenge I have to overcome 8-)

Hans, Howdy;

The "headspace" I was referring to is that which lies between my ears.
I sometimes forget that vernacular can become lost in translation, even with
someone whose mastery of English is superb, as yours is. Our Americanized
brand does have some awkward twists and turns...
I still am working on my crowding the eye problem, sometimes good, sometimes
not so good... ;)

Beautiful Hans. One of my favorite Salmon patterns.
I hate it when I think I'm buying organic vegetables, and when I get home I discover they are just regular donuts.
