Caddis Pupa/Stone Nymph - Tutorial/SBS Tying Instructions

DUBBN, Howdy;

Wayne, when you described tying in the tubing, you mentioned
tying it in where the abdomen and thorax meet and stretching it
tightly while taking the thread to the bend.
Question ... Do you position the tubing along the bottom of the
shank like Hans does when he ties in materials such as wire???
If not how and where do you do it so it doesn't detract from the
base color of the thread???

I tie the D-Rib in on the top of the shank. This material is a lot more forgiving than wire is. Like Hans, I too tie the wire underneath the shank.



Run the thread over the D-Rib all the way back to the end of the bend (or where you prefer), while stretching the D-Rib tight. Then advance your thread back to where you want to end the abdomen, start the thorax.



Advance the D-Rib. *Tip - Pull the D-Rib tight as you start to advance it. Gradually release the tension with each wrap. The last wrap should have no tension at all. When done properly, you will end up with a natural taper. Unlike my pattern shown



I use this same method when using Midge Tubing with a wire core.

Sorry about the crappy photos, and tie job. It's the best I could come up with on a half hour lunch.

Me too. Thanks for the extra shots and the added kick in the pants to tie these. I added a few for my box. These really suite my tying and fishing perfectly.

Silly question, if you use the D-Rib from Thorax to Bend, how do you tie it off? Or did you mean you tie in at bend and end up at Thorax? I can't tell by your photos.

I cant believe how hard it is for me to communicate a technique. I am worse at explaining things than I am at actual fly tieing. That my friends is pretty dang bad! I certainly hope I am better at catching than I am at explaining tomorrow. That means I am fly fishing tomorrow. Not explaining. I really should have gone to college.
