There's good stuff toward the end about Leisenring and Nemes. There's also a quote from a (British) book entitled The Angler's Souvenir, published in 1835, which I found satisfying:

"A gentleman of the name of Vigne, a member of Lincoln's Inn, took a trip to America, about three years ago, during the long vacation, and enjoyed a few days' fly-fishing in Pennsylvania. ... He mentions the red-hackle as the best fly that an angler can throw in Spring Creek"

The author then mentions that the red hackle was most probably a Partridge and Orange.

I can say that almost 180 years later, a Partridge and Orange still works in Spring Creek.
