This has been a fun thread. I bought some different colored midge tubing at a couple fly shops in Basalt and Glenwood, Colorado because of this thread.

Mark, I kinda giggled to myself as I entered the the 2nd shop (Roring Fork Anglers) in Glenwood. Then I punched myself in the stomach really hard and said to myself, "dont go off the deep end and buy every new material in the shop like Mark would!"

Ray ~ That pattern is super -- as with Wayne's version, it stands on it its own considerable merits. And please don't think ill of me for the threading thing; I've never tried it using Flashabou -- only Krystal Flash, which I'm pretty sure is smaller. There are also likely to be differences in the inside diameters of various brands of midge tubing ;) .

Donald ~ I really like your "seatrout" pattern also; same caddis pupa profile, but with an external rib and a different color scheme. Have you fished it yet and if so, with any success?

Bill - My post was incorrect. I had tried the Krystal Flash (not Flashabou) without success. Once I switched over the the copper wire, I was finally able to get the material threaded thru the center of the tubing. Sorry for the confusion.

Thanks Donald.

I got a chance to take the copper core caddis for a swim this morning. Unfortunately I did not catch any steelhead, but I still had fun. I like the look of this fly even more after it has had a swim (see photo below):

I got to try out my new winter hat (Wool Red Plaid Mad Bomber). Pretty goofy looking, but at least my head was warm.   :D
