Re: UFO
I think it looks pretty nice.
I can't really make it out, but is there also herl behind the hackle? There's something dark between the hackle and the thread, that's why I ask.
Also, what kind of hook is that?

Fishnkilts that looks like herl but believe it or not that the thread where I applied some varnish. I’m reluctant to use any glue on silk because my experience is that it turns the silk to an ugly brown. The hook is a Varivas S 2000.

Dear NW,
I love the bare bones, simplistic look of your wonderful pattern! You did a good job of capturing these concepts! I can envision this pattern, tossed up high in the current, not making it very far!
I am going looking at your other offerings that you have posted! Please keep it up!

Fish when you can, not when you should! Anything short of this is just a disaster.

Re: UFO
Clean, simple dressing, well executed. Love the sparseness of the whole fly. If I'm using silk, or even modern man-made threads, I just wax the thread with a little tying wax and whip finish. Been doing that for years and never had a fly fall apart.
It's been a long time since I used it, but have you tried Veniard's "Cellire" Varnish #1. I don't remember if it affects the color of the silk or not.
