I don't believe the gunpowder product is legitimately Leisenring's formula. After melting the ingredients, Leisenring poured them into a bucket of water. He then carefully picked up the molten mass with wet hands and pulled it like taffy. I'm positive gunpowder isn't doing this method at all just by...

They probably got the skull wax idea from Barry Ord Clarke. I traded him some of my wax for one of his skull waxes years ago.

Leisenring’s recipe for wax called for the palest, hardest rosin. Darker grades of rosin are softer. The Thompson wax looks like a softer grade of rosin was used.

Your persistence sure paid off! This card was in among a group of Chadwick’s wool yarns. I saw it in the picture; it wasn’t mentioned in the listing.

The fly was originally created by Harold Howorth. He wanted a more durable version of the snipe and purple. Howorth was not the type to seek publicity. It was Donald C Townsend who wrote “Fly Tying with Harold Howorth”. It’s a book worth having though his modifications are not strictly in the north ...
