I totally agree the the pattern has changed through the years.
Many years ago on the Penobscot River I saw many older gents fishing variation’s of this pattern for Atlantic salmon.

Great fly pattern! Favorite fly of a Maine Indian Guide. Tomah Joseph, an Algonquin Indian from the Grand Lake Stream area in Maine was a fly fishing guide in the 1800s as well as an elder of the Passamaquoddy Indian tribe. Simple pattern but very deadly during a Caddis hatch.
The Deerfield, Swift and the Millers rivers , hence the name DSM.

Well done Carl ! Subtle changes with materials and tying techniques make a big difference! IMHO. I have tied Flymphs with loosely dubbed seal bodies and sparse cockle dry fly hackle to help keep the fly trapped in the film. I have found that the trout prefer the Flymphs in the final inch rather than...
