Re: Snowshoe bodies
Rick that's exactly what I was thinking. Just using some of the fine leftover under fur from between the toes to simulate bubbles

Re: Soft Hackled PT
Just read a story of a guy who has fished nothing but this exact fly for years. Size 14-10 I believe. He fishes it all over the world for everything from trout, to smallmouth bass, to steelies, to barracuda. Even in the salt he still just uses this fly and I believe he said only up to a size 10.

Re: Three Spiders
Your flies look great. Don't worry too much about hackle length. That's personal preference and as I say...if it looks right to YOU, then its right! As stated above if you look at Pritt's writings that everyone holds as gospel, his length was much longer and much more heavily hackled. He makes no me...

Squirrel's nest
Ok guys last one I promise and I'll sit back down and let the grown folks talk. To be clear I'm not really a big fan of all the modern jigged flies or tying variants of patterns I consider sacred. That said, here is a mash up of 2 of my favorite nymphs of all time. Dave whitlock's red fox squirrel n...

Re: olive/claret Guides Choice
You absolutely killed it! That micro pine squirrel collar looks amazing! I think I just may need to buy some for a casual dress variant! So that YOU for the inspiration and fish it with confidence!

Re: olive/claret Guides Choice
Thank you very much. The guides choice for me is that one fly that I can always tie on and scratch out a fish or 2 if I'm having a crappy day. No matter the species or water type I'm NEVER without 3 in my box. I substitute copper wire (and bead if applicable) on pretty much any fly but especially ha...

olive/claret Guides Choice
Size 14 Guides Choice hares ear jig.
I dyed a hares mask and a partridge skin a deep olive. Here are the results. I did put a pearl flash back on it to simulate an air bubble on a cracked shuck. Also I tend to prefer copper wire rather than gold on most of my flies.

Re: Trueblood
The back is indeed peacock herl. I typically tie it on a standard length size 12 for the caddis. 14 for sulphurs. I know it's probably a little big to be accurate as far as hatch matching, but it just dosent look right if you try to squish it down any smaller and the fish definitely don't seem to mi...

Re: Trueblood
That looks awesome. I really need to start putting more work in to hard, glossy wet fly heads. They are really the cherry on top of a good fly.
