[Thank you guys so much!
Chug- I'm definitely no photographer. All I have is my crappy cell phone camera, not even an iPhone, but I do love playing with fly photos. I hope to upgrade to a real camera one day or at least a clip on macro lens.

Trueblood
Saw a photo on here of a nymph called the Elmo and it reminded me of a really effective fly for me by Ted Trueblood called the Trueblood caddis. As the original caddis I hide a small strip of lead wire in the underbody and tie it in a weird greenish/yellowish color as pictured. I also tie it weightl...

Re: Diawl...Crunch?
@letumgo I honestly believe it's the rib that does the fish catching. As with any wet fly, the important thing is what it look like when it's wet. The pearl rib seems to reflect a wide array of colors depending on the natural sunlight and water clarity. Like a chameleon haha I also do the same fly w...

Diawl...Crunch?
I thought I'd share a little mash up of the Diawl Back and Cruncher style flies I've been playing with. I have a fascination with British wet flies. It's basically a diawl bach done in seals fur rather that peacock herl and with a full hackle rather than a beard. Also it has the cheeks of the crunch...

Re: Red Fox Squirrel Nymph
Great job! This is one of my all time favorites flies. My box is full of them and many variants at all times. If you haven't, you guys should check out a similar pattern called the "flying squirrel nymph”. It's much the same, and I use Whitlock's "abdomen" color SLF mixed with squirre...

Re: Frank Sawyer's Nymphs
Part of the beauty of fly tying (in my mind anyway) is that 10 of us could all tie the same pattern, follow the recipe lick for lick, and all come up with 10 very different looking flies. Its art, and a reflection of your own creativity and how your mind works. It's good to show reverence for the hi...

That bird is stunning! So is the fly. I'm loving the translucent ginger on the side too! Btw what hook is that tied on?

Re: Gettin' there!
Mike62 I come from a background of being totally obsessed with tying classic North County spiders so I learned to tie a sparse hackle very last with very little room. I will say that tying the hackle in first and wrapping down a portion of the stem, then butting your rib right up to it on top makes ...
