Re: Dun and Dun

Thank you, Hank, for the link, bud, I appreciate it. raven4ns, Howdy; Dubbn, what size hooks can you tie on using the 4B hen feathers? I didn't buy any because the pictures I looked at all the feathers seemed really large for 14's and 16's, that is as small as I tie because of my vision. Thank you. ...

Re: re: tying Stewart's black spider

Thank you, dd, for the video. It sounded like he was speaking in a Scandinavian dialect but his method was clear though. Thank you again.

Re: re: tying Stewart's black spider

Lol...what larger feathers, Bill, they are all really small. Mind you my vision isn't that great since my stroke which makes tying problematic at best. As it was I was trying to tie a #14 not a #20. What is the largest Stewart's black spider that is typically tied? Thank you for the suggestion, Bill...

re: tying Stewart's black spider

I tried tying my first black spider with starling. Is part of the process of tying this fly a lot of cussing? Those blasted feathers are either too small or my fingers are too big. Aside from not tying any of those spiders do any of you have any suggestions? I watched Davy McPhail and he did it so e...

Re: tying a thorax

Thank you everyone for your ideas, comments and help, it is very much appreciated. I just received a package with a starling pelt, woodcock wings and a partridge pelt about 5 minutes ago so I will be able to tie a few more patterns. Reading the comments from my questions has been very helpful and is...

Re: tying a thorax

Lol...thank you, Hank, I'm trying not to get on anyone's last nerve with my questions. I'm afraid that I'm the kind of guy that needs to know why it works instead of just accepting that it does.

Re: tying a thorax

Thank you, Carl and Bob, for your responses. My time being involved with Soft hackles sure is showing through my lack of knowledge. I feel like a child who has finished grade 2 and is now in high school. Thank you for your patience in answering my questions.

Re: tying a thorax

Thank you for the explanation. In my case, I thought the thorax would help make the hackles move more as opposed to not having one.

Re: tying a thorax

Hello, I noticed some soft hackles are tied with a thorax and others are not. Using a thorax to help keep the hackles from simply laying against the body appeals to me. Are there only certain soft hackles that use a thorax or can it be used regardless? Would the use of a thorax on a soft hackle when...
