Which ever pattern I have the most confidence in I place on the bottom. Furthest from the rod. Just for the reason I get fewer tangles in my setup when that is the hot pattern.
I am sure there's some formulas for the "perfect" set up but I missed or ignored it when it was published.

Re: Fly appearance, physics and hydrodynamics
Get a little fish slime , decaying moss, or dirt on your wet fly. Especially after it is water logged. I bet those barbules press against the abdomen at the slightest current caused pressure.

Peacock and Black - Black Spider
I didnt want to hijack the Stewart Black Spider thread. I keep a few Peacock and Black, & Black Spiders in my fly box. I will not call the Black Spider a Stewart as I dont want to argue the point if it is or is not tied in a manner to call it a Stewart. Both patterns are always tied in size 18. ...

Re: Dun and Dun
The search results I got before asking what "4B hen feathers" are returned all sorts of results about decor and none about tying flies and some stuff about elevator parts; so thank you for suggesting I repeat that search. I now know just as much about your contribution as I care to. A rep...

Re: Dun and Dun
The 4B hen neck is a great addition to any soft hackle material collection. I could not comment on your taste in home and garden decor.

Re: Dun and Dun
Dubbn, what size hooks can you tie on using the 4B hen feathers? I didn't buy any because the pictures I looked at all the feathers seemed really large for 14's and 16's, that is as small as I tie because of my vision. Thank you. I can tie down to 22 with the 4B, but its a struggle. Whiting Genetic...

Re: Buckskin
I still tie and fish a few buckskin patterns and believe the chamois gives the fish something to chew on. After a few fish, they get stanked and slimed like the real thing  ... synthetics don't do that. The downside is they do not dry well and there will be some rusty hooks but it's a smal...

Re: Buckskin
Wayne - Why do you dislike buckskin? What characteristic(s) causes you to seek other options? Curious to hear your thoughts. ;) I dislike chamois, which is used to tie the Buckskin nymphs. I broke my right hand 10 days ago, and am trying to find patterns I can tie. Chamois is too fragile with or wi...
