Re: Hare and Copper
I tie a lot of nymphs with squirrel collars the squirrel dubbing has tinsel already blended in. I buy it form Competitive Angler. They work great and it saves me time because I don't have to do the blending. Nor do you have to do the squirrel gathering bit--which can be a real hassle. Same problem ...

Re: Source for Bullock's Hair?
Thanks for the photograph, this stuff looks great--just the right color and texture. I wonder why it's not used more often? It would seem to be great for stoneflies also.
A cold winter is always good for insect control, lol.
Stay warm!

Re: Source for Bullock's Hair?
I have some. What fly are you tying? Some archaic salmon patterns from Scrope--his "Toppy" and "Meg in Her Maws." https://i.postimg.cc/V6hcCBCL/IMG-7608.jpg They have a flymphish quality to them--rough. I've never seen Bullock's hair before--could you post a picture? How like/un...

Source for Bullock's Hair?
Does anyone have a source for Bullock's hair? I tried Google, and this is what came up: https://i.postimg.cc/nz4S2Fy9/Screen-Shot-2021-02-09-at-2-46-24-PM.png Admittedly, nice, but not especially helpful. I'm looking for black, but blackish-brown would be fine. Happy to trade for some if you have an...

Re: “Dotterel Counterfeit”
I am completely confused by this feather. The fly I have just tied uses an inner covert feather from an American Woodcock recently shot . Bye the way the underwing of the European wood cock and the American Woodcock seems completely different to me. Tom, There are some feathers on the Dotterel that...

Re: “Dotterel Counterfeit”
Well, here's some genuine Dotterel, framed by Corncrake (top) and Nightjar (bottom). These are iphone snaps, as a quick reply--I;d have to set up the lightbox to take better photos. There's very little barring on a dotterel, as John said, it's more a matter of shading. https://i.postimg.cc/VkNjSqcT/...

Re: Seals the Deal Soft Hackle
Seal is a very course fiber, and needed a little extra wax on the silk to get it to behave. I like to use liquid wax when wrangling with seal--Veniard's or Bailey's--it works amazingly well. Also, when you spill it, it makes a most amazing mess. I put the bottle inside a shallow glass jar so it won...
