Re: Alpaca!
Some years past, I went to a fiber festival in Michigan. There was a woman at the show with a small herd of alpacas. She was wearing a shawl that had a very open weave, somewhat like netting. Self Publishing Books
I suppose any number of people here have at one time or another considered writing a book. I know I have been inspired by self published books written by natural dyers where they added dyed samples. The same could be done with flies and has been done in the past(and even today). Anyway, on another f...

Sometimes enough iron was used, such as for a silk scarf, that it added considerable weight so the garment draped solidly. The downside to iron is that it is corrosive (think rust). So ma...

As a dyer I thought I would add my 2¢ worth to the discussion. Until fairly recently the very best black for silk was logwood with an iron mordant. Re: Historical Pattern Question (February Red - circa 1496)
Hi Stefan, I'm really impressed that you were able to slog through all of that. Lots of great information but we will never know how the flies actually looked. There is a saying " the more things change the more they stay the same". If you look at the description for the "Stone Fly&qu...
