It's how I (sorta), learned to fly cast. IMO, there are most likely
a lot of folks that keep their casting 'skills' sharp while chuckin'
panfish bugs when trouts are not available or off limits.

Me. My grandmother put a rod in my hand at about 4-5 and told me that the only fish that was worthy of being caught was a trout or a salmon; all else was trash and therefore called "Bear food", suitable only for 'land release'. I didn't make the same mistake with my own kids. They were raised to enjoy catching anything that swims. We even went so far as to target chub with a fly rod in the dog days of August when no self respecting trout could be found in the river. As long as kids are catching fish, our sport will thrive. Long live the crappie...
