Hook - Mustad 9671
Thread - Black
Body - Flat silver tinsel
Underwing - Yellow calf tail, tied so as to tilt slightly upward
*Overwing - 2 mallard flank feathers, 1 each side
Cheeks - Jungle cock eyes, 2nd eye showing
Hackle - Grizzly and brown mixed - tied as a dry fly collar

* I have 2 gallon bags of teal feathers to use up. My drastically poor supply of mallard flank just couldn't do it

I fished a couple Brookie ponds in New Hampshire once and a Hornberg was the fly.

I love tying Hornburg streamers. Beautiful examples guys. One of my longtime favorite patterns. Great book too (Bates).

A valuable tip I was given years and years ago out West is that the Hornberg is a great hatch buster. For whatever reason it will hook difficult fish on the Montana spring creeks, Henry's Fork, flat water of the Madison in the Park and even the Big Horn. It is the only streamer I have ever caught fish on in the Henry's Fork. There is really something magical about it with rising fish.
