"Old Reliable"

Hook - Mustad 3906B size 4-6
Thread - Black
Tail - Cincinnati Red Lion Brand Yarn (#113)
Body - Syracuse Orange Lion Brand Yarn (#133)
Wing - Brown bucktail

I have no intention of purchasing a full skein of Lion brand yarn for tying a few flies.

I substituted with Uni yarn

Note - William Scripture Jr described a number of his variations of his "favorite fly".

They are labeled for convenience only as, variations A-C.

I love these classic bucktail patterns, and tye/fish them myself. Several years ago I went thru a "bucktail phase" tying all sorts.

Beautiful job Norman. Thanks for showing us these classics. ;)

Every one of these fine flies just screams Maine Brook Trout. I'll be adding a few to the box. Thanks, Norm.

Bob Mallard, founding member of Native Fish Coalition, has a nice book out on fishing brookies in Maine. Of course, he, like everyone else who tries to wax poetic about fishing in Maine, can't be bothered to venture up into northern Maine where the BIG fish actually live. Fine by me; stay home, Bob. Apparently the gas money to get this far north is prohibitive. The book itself is a nice read.
